Proud Moment

Stephen, being the gracious man that he is, has been doing all the driving for the past five months until last week. I decided it was time for me to give it a go and drive on my own. In South Africa, we drive on the opposite side of the road and the steering wheel is on the opposite side of the car than the States. I thought for sure this was going to be difficult. I found out though, that driving on the right-hand side of our car wasn’t all that bad after all. I do believe that the transition to driving on the opposite side of the road was made much easier due to riding in our car with Stephen for the last five months. It is fairly natural for me to stay to the left.

The thingsI did find difficult were the two lane round – abouts. Honestly I think you could die on one of those things. No one follows the rules. I also haven’t mastered parking...no surpise there if you know me and getting in on the right side of the car is aparently still a mystery to me. It’s quite embarassing to be the only person going to your car and to get into the car on the left and there’s no sterring wheel and then to have to get out of the car and switch sides. Honestly I just have to laugh at myself. Someday I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it.  :)
