Investment
One of our students, Pinky (front left with scarf), approached me earlier in the year about what modesty meant. It is not a word she new of. Modesty I don't believe is a common topic taught within the church and especially within the black community. We've seen that evident on campus, but also within the Christian Centre. As I've stated before, nakedness is a cultural norm here. Pinky, like many university girls, found out the hard way that using beauty for attention has consequences and she found herself pregnant in her first year here. Praise Jesus, she now has a healthy baby boy! You can see after this life changing event that she now soaks the Word up like a sponge and takes matters to heart. Since our talk, I have seen a positive change in the way she presents herself before others. Even still, I was surprised when she got up to testify of what God was teaching her about materialism. I asked her if she would mind sharing with me what she was learning and below are her thoughts. I hope you find it as aspiring as I do to see someone grasp this and make a change in their life.
INVESTMENT
Our minds are so much fixed into earthly doings. We have adapted fully on earth that we even forget that there will be a day for us to return home. We are filling our bags with materialistic parcels. Parcels that will only sustain us for now and when we return home, we are empty handed. We have forgotten that even though we invest in our body, our body is nothing. A day will come when the body will be dust and the soul will live. If an individual feeds his or her body with all kinds of experience food [self gratification] then when will he/she have time to feed his soul. Most people, especially women, get into debts that they cannot even afford to pay just because they want to be beautiful. Their investments are made into things that will become nothing. Their souls are hungry because no investment is being made. We are to learn and fix our eyes on things that are worth value. Not value of a few years but eternal value. When we go back home (heaven) our souls shall be well fed to show that investment was made on it. Adam & Eve were tempted to eat on a tree that they were told not to feed on. Let us also listen to God when he tells us to fix our eyes on what is good, not on earthly things. In Philippians 3:18-21 we are URGED to press on towards the goal. Our goal is to have eternal life and therefore we should work towards the goal. It is time to evaluate where your investment is being made.
