Leadership Training

The week after our How 2 week we spent the weekend developing leaders for the year. Friday night was a social time at our house for everyone to get to know one another. We had a game night with a bunch of homemade goodies for everyone to enjoy. It was such a lovely time together. We played darts, Apples to Apples, Rummikub, and multiple card games. The neighbors told me later of how they could hear everyone laughing all night. Then Saturday was the training session. The goal was to give them the vision of the ministry as well as to instill in them a heart for people and the importance of the word. We had 15 students attend including two of our white students. We started the day presenting the point to our gathering which was to prepare them for leadership in the ministry. This was followed by getting a feel for what they would like to see Christ do on their campus. This was a discussion time Stephen led and was a real eye opener for us on where these students are spiritually and to feel out where their hearts are. We then broke for lunch and fellowship in the beautiful sunny weather. We started our second session by watching “How Great is our God” by Louie Giglio followed by Cedric’s presentation of his vision from Colossians 1:27-28. The main points Cedric touched on were:
- To proclaim Christ, the hope of glory to everyone on campus
- To develop, instruct and change people’s thinking through the Word of God
- To develop them so that they may impact their world for Christ
- To facilitate the growth of everyone in our ministry
Then he went through the characteristics of a leader and I followed up with our expectations as a leader.

For our first training session with potential leaders we feel it went really well. Out of this group 10 committed to either being a Bible study leader or to assist in one, which we were very excited about!
