Raising Money for our One Life Camp

Almost every weekend in February, Stephen and I setup shop and operated our very own concession stand on campus. Some of those weekends we even did it twice. It was lots of work, but it paid off. We sold cold drinks, coleslaw, wors (hot dogs essentially), candy bars, and other snacks in order to raise money for our camp. All proceeds were to go towards students who could not afford on their own to attend the camp. We sold at cycling events, rugby games, student social days and even did a bake sale at church. By the end of the month we had raised R3,500 or $500 for the camp! It was amazing to see God multiply our efforts.
One day in particular, after coming home from selling, Stephen sat down and started computing our profit. After figuring out how much our expenses had cost us and subtracting from that any leftover inventory that we could return and take back to the store for a refund, Stephen said that we should have only made around R700 for that day. This was based solely on inventory:
what we bought – what we returned = what we sold.
Simple, right? Well after counting what we had raised, we did not end up with R700, but 3 times that amount! We were both quite shocked! Stephen said it was our own “Feeding of the 5,000” so-to-speak. We still have no idea how this happened. God just performed His supernatural multiplication. Which, by the way, He’s really good at! God is good and He continues to show us His greatness even in the small things in life!

Here is Stephen and Philani (one of our committee members) braaing up the wors. This particular day we had a continuous line for three hours to get one of Stephen’s perfectly done wors.

Our little concession stand. We learned later that the expression “concession stand” does not exist in peoples vocabularly here.

Philani again. Doesn’t he just look sweet. We love this kid.

This is Mnqobi also another student we love. He is our chairman – or head of the student committee within One Life. We are really enjoying him and his concern for others.
