Bible Study Start Ups

Our first Monday night Bible study went great. We watched a Louie Giglio talk called “Fruitcake and Ice Cream.” It’s an amazing talk of the simple act of saying Yes to God with your life. At the end is a testimony of a college student who is living for herself and what that all entails and how God changes her heart through the simple friendship she finds in her Christian roommate. Her roommate didn’t witness to her, but lived her life out before her in an authentic Christian way. The roommate’s life was so different compared to her own life that anything she saw her roommate do and say made a major impact on her. This is a testimony of how God can use someone in someone else’s life in a matter of days! If you haven’t seen this talk I would highly recommend it. It speaks to all walks of life and defiantly challenges and inspires you to the core. Following the video we had dessert and tea and just hung around to fellowship.

Also, in the course of the evening we gave the students a survey to fill out. Stated on it were three questions:

1. What do you want to see God do on your campus?
2. Based on what the Bible says, how does a person live out a victorious (successful) Christian life?
3. When you stand before the gates of heaven and God asks you, “Why should I let you into my kingdom?” how would you answer Him?

The answers to these questions help us gauge where they are spiritually and what kind of teaching they’ve been exposed to. It also helps us evaluate what we might want to study for the year and also to what depth we are able to go with them in our small group Bible studies. The outcome was better than we expected. Out of the 20 or so students half have a fairly grounded knowledge of what it means to be saved by grace, while the other half have a works based mentality, which was not surprising to us at all. Due to this we are going to spend a few weeks in Ephesians 2 to hopefully help them grasp the awesome truth of Grace!

It really was a blessed evening. Thanks for your prayers!
